Gestational diabetes is a diabetes type that happens to pregnant mothers when there is no sign of diabetes found before the pregnancy. While there is no real proof regarding what causes the condition, several experts believe that this is due to the hormon activity troughout the pregnancy. Those hormon activities create a condition when the body becomes insulin resistance. When the condition occurs for long times the blood sugar level become higher then normal. There are no real reasons why it happens to some women and not for other women. But there are various factors that probably elevate the risk of this diabetes being developed. Gestational diabetes usually is developed during the 24th weeks of pregnancy. That is why most of the time pregnant women don’t find any blood sugar rate increasing at their first trimester.

You have to do this test periodically to be sure the blood sugar range is kept on the normal ranges. If you see any increasing it is suggested to contact your doctor soon. This is very important since gestational diabetes can affect your pregnancy and baby.

Basically, gestational diabetes can be controlled and managed with proper diet. Actually, most oral diabetes medications are not suggested in this case because it may affect your body and the baby condition. Hypoglycemia is an example.

Make a proper gestational diabetes diet is very crucial in this level since you are on pregnancy. You need sufficient nutrition supply each day to support your pregnancy and the growing baby, while at the same time you need to make sure the diet you consume will not increase the blood sugar ranges.
